Reporting live from your EP

Yesterday I went to the European parliament to defend an answer C gave to a petitioner; a very interesting experience as every sort of requests - from English hooligans wronged by the Italian police to large primates rights activists and defenders of the 112 EU emergency number - can (and actually get to) be presented to the MEPs of the committee of petitions.

So those were delightful, heart-warming, eye-watering moments: witnessing live citizens' rights defended and the rule of law upheld by the work of a democratic institution.

And, perhaps more important, finding out first hand that the committee's vice-president is a woman. A beautiful, red-haired, fiery-eyed woman.

Unrelated to that, I can also report that all male petitioners had particular trouble finding out how to turn on their microphones, read their speeches, and basically control drooling.
